It is essential to know that construction with plasterboard can be something simple and common, but it requires a lot of attention, knowledge and skills to be done correctly and in a safe way so that there are no malfunctions and problems.
It is therefore necessary to get expert advice and technical support. This text will help you to understand how a construction is made and of course give you the impetus to try it yourself!
Ceiling with plasterboard:
PRODUCT | QUANTITY | MM |
PLASTERBOARD PLAIN | 1,0 | M2 |
FLAT VIBES 25mm | 17 | Item |
Jointing material | 0,5 | Kg |
Jointing Tape | 1,2 | Μ |
Oupa and screw | 1,3 | Item |
Posts | 1,3 | Item |
Dizies | 1,3 | Item |
Roof channel | 3,2 | Μ |
Perimetric roof | 0,4 | Μ |
Tools that will be needed:
- Alphadolite or laser or alphadolite
- Rama ochre – lead
- Electric drill with drill bit depending on the dowel to be used
- Electric screwdriver for screws in metal profiles and plasterboards
- Spatula for trimming the joints
- Razor for smoothing edges
- Drywall saw for drilling holes e.g. for spot, air condition, pipes.
- Sander for sanding the joints or sandpaper
- Sheet metal shears for cutting of metal profiles
Installation procedure:
The engraving for the roof installation is made around the perimeter of the walls with tool (1) and (2). Mark the height at which the construction will be made.
After cutting the roof, we drill a hole in the wall with the electric drill to place the dowels to fix them around the perimeter at 50cm on one side and place the roof frame (CD) at 60cm intervals. Then we place the secondary guide every 100-120cm and connect them with a P or T connector. Then we connect the whole frame with the suspensions (one suspension per m2).
Start laying the plasterboards from one corner and perpendicular to the ceiling channels. Screw every 25-30cm and not at the edge of the drywall. After finishing the first row lengthwise, we start placing the second row. The joints should not be in the same line and that is why we start laying the second row by cutting the plasterboard in half. Similarly we alternate for the remaining rows. Finally, we place a tape on the joints and apply a plasterboard jointing material (Fugenfuller or Uniflot) over the entire surface. The next day we sand the grout and smooth the surface to make it ready for painting.
Wall construction with plasterboard:
PRODUCT | QUANTITY | MM |
PLASTERBOARD PLAIN | 2,0 | M2 |
FLAT VIBES 25mm | 29,0 | Item |
Jointing material | 0,5 | Kg |
Jointing Tape | 1,5 | M |
Oupa and screw | 1,8 | Item |
Upright | 2,0 | Μ |
Layer | 0,7 | Μ |
Double-sided film | 1,2 | Μ |
We will need the same tools as for the roof construction.
Installation procedure:
Alphasize and mark the exact spot on the room ceiling wall where the partition will be built. This is done by using an alphanumeric or laser as noted above.
Mark every 50-60cm around the perimeter of the ceiling and the wall where the sleeper (floor and ceiling) and the uprights (from floor to ceiling) will be screwed. We place dowels and then screw the metal profiles.
Then, on the frame that has been created, we place the uprights every 60cm vertically and between the sleepers.
Start screwing the plasterboards along the wall, alternating the joints in a row. (in the case that they will be installed over a row of plasterboards)
Place tape on the joints and putty
The next day we rub the putty to smooth the surface
The partition is ready for painting
Comments:
- If the wall will have a door, the width and height of the opening should be calculated when the frame starts to be made. In this case, care is required in the placement around the perimeter of the opening to make the construction robust by using more specialised metal profiles.
- For a better result, it is recommended to apply a ready-made paste over the entire surface of the drywall in order to achieve a finer result and to make the painting more correct.
- For reasons of sound insulation we recommend the application of insulating material, such as rock wool or mineral wool between the metal profiles.
